About Säntis Malt
Brauerei Locher AG is a brewery steeped in tradition that is now in its fifth generation of family ownership. The Appenzellers have been producing beer and spirits for their customers for over 130 years. The products are made according to traditional recipes and are nurtured and cared for in the hilly landscape of Appenzell until they are enjoyed.
The history of the Locher family and their art of brewing began in Oberegg in Switzerland in the 18th century. In 1886, the Locher family took over the brewery in Appenzell, which still serves as a brewery and distillery today. In 1999, after the ban on the production of spirits from grain was lifted, master brewer Karl Locher, known for his creative beers, began producing Säntis Malt Whisky in historic beer barrels using spring water from the neighboring Alpstein mountains. In 2002, Brauerei Locher AG launches its first products on the market and goes down in the history books as a pioneer of Swiss whisky production. Since 2003, the company has also been using barley from the highest growing areas in Switzerland, which gains vitality and strength from extreme weather conditions.
