Bremen, 04.07.2024. Kyrö Distillery has achieved significant success at the prestigious Meininger’s International Spirits Awards (ISW) 2024. All four whiskies in the range were awarded at least gold – a success that shows that Finnish whisky plays an important role on the international market.

Whiskey (international) of the year 2024

The gold awards underline the quality and innovative strength of the Kyrö distillery. Particularly noteworthy is the title of “Whiskey (international) of the Year 2024” for Kyrö Malt Oloroso, which impressed the expert jury with its characteristic taste, mouthfeel and balance of aroma, alcohol and wood. The finish in Oloroso casks supports the sweetness of the rye without overpowering it – perfectly balanced and juicy.

Finnish top class

“Our distillery was founded in 2012 in a sauna by five friends who dreamed of producing rye-based spirits in Isokyrö,” explains Mikko Koskinen, co-founder of Kyrö. “Twelve years later, this distillery can hold its own against renowned competitors from all over the world with its whiskies produced in Finland. We are overwhelmed and proud of this award.”

About Meininger’s International Spirits Award (ISW)

Since 2004, the ISW has provided an objective and expert platform for evaluating spirits. Distillers and producers receive detailed feedback here, while consumers find a reliable guide for their purchasing decisions. A jury of five to six experts tastes the submitted spirits blind in thematically related flights. Each sample is assessed in terms of appearance, smell, taste and overall impression. The best spirits are awarded Grand Gold, Gold or Silver medals. Special awards are also presented for outstanding products.
