Big Peat: Douglas Laing celebrates its 15th anniversary with a unique bottling

Bremen, 20.09.2024. Douglas Laing & Co. is releasing a unique Big Peat anniversary bottling to mark the 15th anniversary of the popular Islay blended malt whisky. Bottled at 50% alcohol by volume, this limited edition is matured mainly in hand-selected red wine casks, which give the smoky Islay blended malt Scotch whisky its unique character.

Special attention is paid to the bespoke packaging, on which 15 exciting details about Big Peat, the island of Islay and the unique whisky can be found. There is also the opportunity to join the Big Peat Club via QR code, which has some new products in store for 2025.

Thanks to the special cask maturation, Big Peat fans can look forward to a warm smoky aroma with earthy notes, surrounded by wild berries and vanilla. Toffee, dark chocolate and some nuttiness can be found on the palate, followed by a long, full-bodied finish with plenty of peat smoke and a certain spiciness – a unique combination to mark the occasion.

Celebrating the 15th anniversary of Big Peat is a very special moment for everyone at Douglas Laing and they are looking forward to the years ahead.

Commenting on the special bottling, Chloe Wood, Brand Manager of Big Peat, said: “We are thrilled to be celebrating 15 successful years of Big Peat and to pay homage to this event with this bottling is a special moment for us here at Douglas Laing. The red wine casks hand-picked for this special bottling provide us with a completely unique flavor profile that balances the classic Islay peat smoke that Big Peat is known for with the fruity, chocolaty nuttiness that its careful maturation has produced. A dram to savor and a moment to celebrate.”

About Douglas Laing & Co.

Founded over 75 years ago, the family business Douglas Laing & Co. is now one of Scotland’s leading whisky producers and supplies the world with excellent Scotch whiskies with a particular focus on single cask single malts and small batch malt Scotch whiskies. The company was founded in 1948 by Fred Douglas Laing and is still owned by the Laing family today. Cara Laing is currently the third generation of the Laing family to run the company as Managing Director. The company philosophy always follows the aim of not adulterating the whisky and therefore bottling it with a relatively high alcohol content and rigorously without chill-filtration.

At its heart are the “Remarkable Regional Malts”, a family of brands that includes the bottlings Big Peat (Islay), Timorous Beastie (Highlands), The Epicurean (Lowlands), Rock Island (Islands), The Gauldrons (Campbeltown) and Scallywag (Speyside). The Laing family is also particularly proud of its own premium single cask bottlings such as Provenance, Old Particular and Xtra Old Particular (XOP) as well as the whiskies from its own whisky distillery, Strathearn.
