Bar know-how
Three bar professionals from internationally renowned establishments in Zurich were involved in the development of Gin 27. Peter Roth and Christian Heiss work at the Kronenhalle Bar and Markus Blattner at the Widder Hotel. They supported the “Fine Tuning” and gave suggestions, which were taken up by the Appenzell distillers. Together they allowed it to grow into what it is today. A gin with an unmistakable character.
Botanicals & production
GIN 27 is characterized by its carefully selected botanicals, which give it its unique taste.
The most important ingredients include:
- Juniper berries: The basis of every classic gin, known for their aromatic and slightly resinous notes.
- Lemon peel: These bring a fresh, citrusy lightness to the gin.
- Coriander seeds: Give the gin a spicy, slightly sweet note.
- Angelica root: Provides depth and earthy nuances.
- Lavender: A special ingredient that gives GIN 27 its floral and slightly sweet tones.
- Hay flowers: A unique botanical that underlines the connection to the gin’s Alpine homeland and provides a subtly earthy aroma.
GIN 27 is produced in small batches to ensure its high quality and distinctive character. Every step of the distillation process is carried out with the utmost care and attention to detail to ensure that only the best makes it into the bottle. The use of pure spring water from the Appenzell mountains also contributes to the purity and clarity of this premium gin.
Gin 27 Original
Appenzell Dry Gin
The GIN 27 bears its origin in its name: Weissbadstrasse 27, Appenzell. This is where Appenzeller Alpenbitter AG produces Appenzell Dry Gin. The distilling tradition and herbal expertise of the family business came into play during development – as did the expertise of bar professionals.
GIN 27 is distilled and bottled by the master distillers in Appenzell according to their own recipe using only the finest ingredients. The interplay of spicy aromas, oranges and juniper gives this distillate its fresh and spicy character.

Gin 27 Woodfire
Appenzell Glow Gin
It is the latest addition to the GIN 27 family and is drunk hot. A mulled gin based on the popular GIN 27 SOUL OF WOOD with elderberry and hand-picked pine shoots from the company’s own forest. The two GIN 27 variations with pine shoots reflect the philosophy of the family business: quality, nature and down-to-earthness as well as the close connection with the Appenzell region. Like the two company founders, the descendants also cultivate the distilling tradition with great care.
GIN 27 WOODFIRE is characterized by the ancient herbal knowledge of the founding family. The gin recipe has been supplemented with classic winter spices such as orange, ginger, cinnamon and aniseed. The mulled gin is amber in color and offers a beautiful, harmonious and well-rounded taste experience. GIN 27 WOODFIRE can be prepared in no time at all. Pour boiling water over it – that’s it.
