Bobby’s Gin:
A journey between two worlds
Bobby’s Gin is an exceptional spirit that bridges the gap between Indonesian and Dutch tradition. Named after Jacobus Alfons, affectionately known as “Bobby”, this gin combines the cultural roots of its namesake and stands for an unmistakable taste experience that is both exotic and classic.
A family business
If you ask Sebastiaan and David about their grandfather Bobby Alfons, they tell the story of how he emigrated to the Netherlands and missed the flavors of his birthplace Naku on the Moluccan spice island of Ambon. Sebastiaan: “I remember the good-humored days in Grandpa Bobby’s house, full of family and laughter, the aromas of spices like lemongrass, cloves, cinnamon, coriander and cubeb pepper that enchanted the room – the plants he used to infuse his Dutch jenever with.”
Looking 2/3 decades into the future, the grandchildren felt it was time to explore the family tradition and in particular grandfather’s traditional spice blend Pinang Raci.
FROM THE SPICE ISLAND OF AMBON TO THE HISTORIC CITY OF SCHIEDAM, FROM GRANDFATHER TO GRANDCHILDREN: BOBBY’S JOURNEY IS A STORY OF FAMILY TRADITION, DEDICATION AND KNOWLEDGE THAT COME TOGETHER TO CREATE AN EXCEPTIONAL GIN.
Sebastiaan: “I started my career in the beverage industry, but I had to go my own way. I was ready to create something different, something exciting and something that comes from the heart. My mother and I got talking and during a long discussion at the dinner table, she suggested: “How about Grandpa Bobby’s recipe?”. With the help of the whole family, we reconstructed the recipe based on Grandpa Bobby’s family tradition and the Pinang Raci recipe, where genever is infused with a mixture of spices. In the end, Aunt Betty remembered the mishmash of Indonesian spices.
Thus began the grandchildren’s journey to produce Bobby’s Dry Gin.

DUTCH COURAGE
In Schiedam, the capital of distillation, the first jenever was distilled – the malty forerunner of gin. This unique spirit became known as “Dutch courage” among the English navy fighting at sea. On their return home, the British tried to copy jenever, but were unsuccessful. The result was dry gin: jenever minus malt spirit.
INDONESIAN SPIRIT
Grandfather Jacobus “Bobby” Alfons, who emigrated from Naku, Ambon, to the Netherlands in 1951, was known for his skill in adding his Pinang Raci spice blend to Dutch jenever, which reminded him of his homeland: Naku on the Moluccan “spice island” of Ambon. Mixing genever with spices, making his own Pinang Raci, was a daily routine for grandfather Bobby. With intuition and a genuine love of taste, he infused his favorite spirit with traditional spices.
Bobby’s Schiedam Dry Gin
Bobby’s Schiedam Dry Gin is a sophisticated combination of Dutch courage and Indonesian soul. A fresh and aromatic combination of gin botanicals typical of Schiedam, such as juniper berries, fennel seeds, coriander and rosehips: Juniper berries, fennel seeds, coriander and rose hips. But also traditional Indonesian spices such as lemongrass, cloves, cinnamon and cubeb pepper. Bobby’s thus unites East and West in a balanced, award-winning gin that is appreciated by adventurous gin lovers and bartenders worldwide.

Bobby’s Gin Pinang Raci
Pinang Raci literally translates as “spice mixture”. Grandfather Jacobus “Bobby” Alfons was known for his ability to flavor Dutch jenever with spices. These spices reminded him of his homeland of Naku on the island of Ambon. In this way, he created his very own genever. An aromatic gin with full, warm notes of daun salam, turmeric and galangal, accompanied by ginger, sweet orange, cloves, cinnamon, lemongrass, cubeb pepper, coriander and juniper.

Bobby’s Schiedam Jenever
Bobby’s Schiedam Jenever is a wonderfully balanced young jenever in which Indonesian spices play the leading role. The small amount of the characteristic malt wine provides just the right bready, nutty base for the spices to emphasize their lemony and herbaceous characteristics. Botanical-driven, accessible jenever with a unique freshness and a peppery finish. A heart-warming drink, accessible yet complex.
