Portrait of a rebellious gin with an unusual character

Bremen, 05 July 2021. The Bremer Spirituosen Contor expands its portfolio in the segment of premium gins with the unique Sir Edmond Gin. The first gin refined with vanilla tells the story of a flamingo that lives on the island of Reunion.

A migratory bird, he has been inspired by the world of spices on his many travels to develop a culinary delicacy that focuses on the flavors of vanilla. The result is an expressive gin with an incomparable character.

The peculiarity of the gin lies in the use of bourbon vanilla. The high quality vanilla variety comes from the island of Reunion. The aging process from seed to dried pod, which is added to the distillate, lasts four years. Also in the selection of other ingredients, only high quality and natural ingredients are used. Juniper berries, angelica, ginger, cardamom and cinnamon supported the characteristic flavor of vanilla. The aromas of vanilla drown out the natural bitterness of juniper berry. The result is a genuine and elegant gin with the scent of a waffle bakery.

The history of Sir Edmond Gin goes far back into the past. In 1819, French businessmen brought vanilla to Reunion Island. However, the native insects did not pollinate the plants. It was not until four decades later that twelve-year-old Edmond Albius succeeded in developing the first method of manual pollination, some of which is still used today. Edmond Albius was born a slave on Reunion Island in 1841. With the end of slavery, he left the island as a free man, but without ever knowing what discovery he succeeded in making. Its history has played an important role in making vanilla such a popular spice and therefore serves as inspiration for Sir Edmond Gin.

Even before the first humans set foot on Reunion Island, birds were already living on the island. One of the first inhabitants of the island were flamingos, which is picked up by the label and the flamingo Sir Edmond, who tells the story of the gin. Even today, the island fascinates with its diverse flora and fauna. To preserve this, an amount is donated to the African Wildlife Fundation for each bottle sold. This Kenya-based charity is dedicated to the conservation of wildlife and their habitats, as well as community empowerment and economic development. Sir Edmond pursues the dream that all people preserve the world of animals and see it as a miracle of nature.

Sir Edmond Gin is now available in well-stocked stores and in the best bars and restaurants in the world.

Tasting Notes

An inviting, rich and harmonious interplay of juniper berry, cardamom, vanilla, hints of ginger and earthy angelica.

Full-bodied, with a smooth, velvety mouthfeel. Initially, vanilla and cardamom notes predominate, which are later complemented by subtle cinnamon and juniper notes and a hint of ginger.

Long lasting, dry and not too sweet. Makes you want more. The melange of vanilla, cardamom, ginger and cinnamon provides a truly unique finish and unusual character. Sir Edmond Gin is smooth and mild and, most importantly, simply different.

About SIR EDMOND GIN

Founded in 2016, Sir Edmond Gin is an Amsterdam-based spirits brand and a global product. And that in the truest sense of the word. It sources its botanicals from southeastern Europe, Central America, Greenland, China and Africa, and while it is a migratory bird, it is at home in Réunion, the island paradise east of Madagascar. That’s why protecting African wildlife is as close to his heart as making the best possible gin with bourbon vanilla. It may be a rebellious gin, but it is aware of its responsibilities. He stands by his animal brothers and sisters on the African continent to protect themselves from the threat of humans. How? It’s simple: for every bottle he sells, he donates an amount to the African Wildlife Foundation. This Kenya-based charity is passionate about protecting wildlife and their habitats, as well as strengthening communities and economic development.
