Douglas Laing releases a limited summer edition with the Big Peat “Peatrichor” Edition
Bremen, May 12, 2021 Big Peat, the award-winning Islay malt Scotch whisky from the family-owned Douglas Laing & Co, today unveils “its” special bottling for the summer of 2021: Big Peat “Peatrichor” Limited Edition.
Bottled at a natural cask strength of 53.8% alcohol, Big Peat’s latest bottling celebrates the rains on Islay – after all, today’s rain is tomorrow’s whisky! The word peatrichor (or petrichor) describes the earthy scent that comes with rainfall as the drops patter on dry ground.
The high-quality tube, shows Big Peat in a yellow raincoat, while the sky, on his home island of Islay, opens the floodgates. Only a little more than 5,000 bottles of this special bottling are available worldwide. In keeping with the Big Peat philosophy, the bottling was made without coloring or chill filtration.
Big Peat Peatrichor coincides with the launch of a new multi-faceted campaign to bring to life Big Peat’s positioning as the “ultimate taste of Islay.” Activities include tasting initiatives across Asia and Europe, as well as an interactive virtual tasting of the product range and an intensification of digital marketing via social media channels in conjunction with global collaborations with influencers.
Chris Leggat, CEO of Douglas Laing, comments:
“As a brand, Big Peat places great emphasis on the quality and provenance of its whisky. This latest release and accompanying marketing campaign bring to life the ultimate distillation of Islay, unmistakably conveying the Islay style with notes of peat smoke, damp earth and a leathery charm.”
Big Peat’s “Peatrichor” Limited Edition is limited to just over 5000 bottles and will be available in liquor stores in May 2021.

About Douglas Laing
Founded over 70 years ago, the family-owned company Douglas Laing & Co. is now one of Scotland’s leading whisky producers, supplying the world with excellent Scotch whiskies with a particular focus on single cask single malts as well as small batch malt Scotch whiskies. The company was founded in 1948 by Fred Douglas Laing and is still owned by the Laing family. The company management is shared by Chairman Fred Laing Jr, Chris Leggat as CEO and Fred’s daughter Cara as Head of Whisky. The company philosophy always follows the goal of not adulterating the whiskey and therefore bottling with relatively high alcohol content and rigorously without cold filtration. At its heart are the “Remarkable Regional Malts,” a family of brands that includes the bottlings Big Peat (Islay), Timorous Beastie (Highlands), The Epicurean (Lowlands), Rock Island (Islands), The Gauldrons (Campbeltown), and Scallywag (Speyside). In addition, the Laing family is also particularly proud of its own premium single cask bottlings, such as Provenance, Old Particular and Xtra Old Particular (XOP), as well as the whiskies from its own whisky distillery, Strathearn.
